African Peace Award — Terms & Conditions
Effective date: September 25, 2025
1. Introduction & acceptance
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern participation in the African Peace Award program, including nominations, applications, events, and any related services. By submitting a nomination, application, registering for an event, or otherwise participating, you agree to these Terms.
2. Definitions
– Award: African Peace Award and related activities.
– Nominee: an individual or organization nominated for an Award.
– Nominator: the person or organization submitting a nomination.
– Applicant: someone who applies directly for consideration.
– Selection Committee: persons appointed to review nominations and select winners.
3. Eligibility
Eligibility rules for each award category are set out in the specific nomination materials.
Nominees must meet category-specific criteria and not be in breach of applicable laws or professional codes.
The Award reserves the right to verify eligibility and disqualify nominees at any time for false, incomplete or fraudulent information.
4. Nomination & application process
Nominations must be submitted by the published deadline in the required format. Materials submitted (biographies, statements, images, video) must be truthful and represent the nominee accurately.
By submitting materials, the nominator/applicant confirms they have the right to provide them and grants the Award the rights described in Section 8 (Intellectual Property & Publicity).
5. Selection & notification
The Selection Committee will evaluate entries against published criteria. Decisions are final and binding.
The Award does not guarantee a particular timetable for review; nominees and nominators will be notified of outcomes per the schedule published for each Award cycle.
In the event of a tie or dispute, the Selection Committee’s decision is final.
6. Prizes & benefits
Prizes, honours or benefits (if any) are described in the applicable award materials. Unless expressly stated, prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable and no cash alternative will be offered.
Winners are responsible for any taxes or costs associated with acceptance of a prize, unless otherwise stated.
7. Publicity & consent
By participating, nominators, nominees and winners grant African Peace Award a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce and publish submitted materials and images for promotional, publicity and archival purposes, online and in print, unless specific restrictions are agreed in writing.
Winners may be required to participate in reasonable publicity and promotional activities.
8. Intellectual property & submissions
You retain ownership of materials you submit. However, by submitting you grant the Award the license described above and warrant you have the necessary rights to grant the license.
The Award is not liable for inadvertent use of materials that infringe third-party rights; nominators/applicants agree to indemnify the Award for any such claims.
9. Fees & payments
Any fees (for registration, tickets or sponsorship) are specified in the relevant materials. Payment terms will be set out at the point of purchase. Refund policies are provided with ticketing information.
10. Code of conduct & ethics
Participants must conduct themselves professionally and in a manner consistent with the Award’s mission to promote peace and harmony.
The Award may, at its discretion, refuse participation or recognition to any person or organization whose conduct is inconsistent with these values.
11. Disqualification & termination
The Award may disqualify any nomination, withdraw an award or cancel participation if it determines there has been a breach of these Terms, fraud, misrepresentation, or conduct damaging to the Award’s reputation.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, African Peace Award and its officers, employees and partners shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses arising from your participation.
Where applicable law does not allow limitation of liability, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless African Peace Award from and against any claims, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses arising from your breach of these Terms or any representations you have made.
14. Data protection & privacy
Use of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy [link]. By participating you agree to our use of your personal data as described in that policy.
15. Amendments
The Award may modify these Terms at any time. Revised Terms will be posted on our website and will apply from the stated effective date. Continued participation after changes have been posted constitutes acceptance.
16. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [insert applicable jurisdiction]. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction. (Replace with the jurisdiction where the Award is legally registered.)
17. Severability
If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be severed and the remainder of the Terms will continue in full force.
